After 49 years living in Southern California, USA, I decided to move to the Philippines despite never having been here before. I spent a year getting all the information I could online and on July, 2012, I took a leap of faith and transplanted myself first to Mactan and then began my trek through Cebu, Bohol, Panglao, Moalboal and currently in Dumaguete here in the amazing Philippines. I am a single man taking an honest look at all that the islands here have to offer, one day a...

Everyone has been suggesting we go to S&R to look for American foods. I have been there in the past but has been a long time. Today we grabbed a cab and went to a close by location. Since we don't have our own car I decided to only grab a few smaller items. Unfortunately still no pizza rolls or hot pockets, but we did find Mac-n-cheese!!!

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo made a surprise visit to Liana's supermarket in Leveriza Street in Pasay City and in Savemore in Nagtahan to check if supermarkets in Metro Manila are following the directives of the government to remove from market shelves milk tainted with melamine. This after the Department of Health released their partial list of milk that had already been tested for the substance melamine. The president personally inspected the helves and was pleased to discover that certain milk products have reduced prices by 20%. The melamine scare started after thousands of children in China suffered kidney problems after drinking milk containing the substance melamine.

Products discussed: - whole wheat bread - cookies - green peppers - cucumbers - Parmesan cheese - pancit canton (like ramen noodles) - cantaloupe - rice (the cheapest rice in the supermarket) - toilet paper - eggs - tomato sauce - milk (low fat and whole fat) - water If you like this video, be sure to click the like button, share it and leave me a comment! When visiting Chinatown I did a quick walk through of a grocery store there full of Chinese and Korean products. Sorry it was a fast walk through and you can't really make out many of the items. There are stores like this in other places too. We have a Korean place in Ortigas that we walk to sometimes for Ice cream. Not knowing very much about the Philippines before I visited, I was pleasantly surprised by Manila and Subic and how they both reminded me of America. The highlight of the trip was getting a chance to visit a Vietnamese boat people refugee camp near Baataan. I met some friendly Pinoys too. The food was great. The transportation readily available. And the landscape extremely beautiful. There are plenty to see and do as well. -------------------------------------------------- About Me: I'm Kyle Le and I live, travel, and eat in Vietnam and many Asian countries. A brief documentary about Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. Every year, more than 5.5 million tourists take their vacations in the Philippines, and often Manila is their very first stop. Nearly 16 million people live in the Metro Manila area, which is made up of many smaller cities, including Makati, Pasay, Pasig, Paranaque, Mandaluyong, Quezon City, and more. Manila is where big business takes place, where major investments are made, and where residential and commercial real estate is never-ending. Many tourists enjoy the malls, the restaurants, the museums, the nightlife, and even the beautiful Manila Bay. Probably, the biggest tourist attraction is the SM Mall of Asia - the 3rd largest mall in the world. For more details about Manila or the Philippines in general, visit ...
